BONGA PERKINS

Bonga is an esteemed member of the small society of elite watermen. A title that is only earned from many years of ocean experience and proving yourself in dangerous ocean conditions. A master of his craft, yet as humble as they come, Bonga has finally answered the call of many to produce his own line of longboards.

As a child, BP was immersed in the Waikīkī Beach Boy lifestyle lead by his father Greg. He began competing at age 11 and turned professional at 17. Bonga brought his own flair to the longboarding world with his fierce and powerful style. Infatuated with big surf, Bonga moved to the North Shore of O’ahu to push his limits in heavier conditions. Bonga carved out his niche in lineups at Pipeline, Haleiwa and Sunset Beach, which were predominantly ridden by shortboarders. Bonga continued on to compete on the World Longboard tour for 18 years. Winning two World titles in 1996 and 2008, and placing in the top three nine times. BP is also a proud member of the prestigious Hawaiian Water Patrol founded by Brian Keaulana and Terry Ahue. This elite team is the foremost expert in Hawaiʻi ocean safety and rescue.

Bonga’s passion for ocean culture is displayed in his commitment to sharing his vast knowledge. His lifestyle includes outrigger canoe paddling, canoe surfing, swimming, foiling, diving, and fishing. BP also shapes traditional papa he’enalu surfboards. He has created a carefully curated collection of longboards based on 43 years of surfing experience, and knowledge of the ocean.
